About Black on Beacon Hill

Black on Beacon Hill's®  core mission is to connect the early history of Black Bostonians to the current lived situations of Boston's communities of color.  

Black people created a thriving, vibrant community on Beacon Hill dating back to before the American Revolution.  That legacy lives on in Boston's Black communities today throughout the state.

Black on Beacon Hill® is an independent educational platform and awareness initiative created by Andrea and Dan Delaney to undo the erasure of the lives and impact of Massachusetts' earliest Black inhabitants, both slave and free.  It does so with the explicit intent of applying the lessons of history to current and ongoing efforts for liberty and equality.

As professionals in government relations, Andrea and Dan know the powerful role that history plays in contemporary policy decisions.  They also know how effectively ignorance and erasure has been weaponized.

We're not here to "speak for" black people.  That happens too often.  Our purpose is to  create a space and opportunity for black and brown people to be able to engage directly and access more power.

Black on Beacon Hill exists to unpack these dynamics.
